The village of St Clément des Baleines is ideally located between the coast known as the wild coast, the salterns and the beach of La Conche.

On its edge the famous 57m high Lighthouse of Whales which overhangs the large beach of La Conche considered as one of the most beautiful of the island. Paths and cycle tracks offers many jaunts along the sea wall through the vineyards and the marshes, or even in the middle of the famous ornithological reserve of the LPO (protection league of birds) of Les Portes en Ré. You can also enjoy shell collecting or relax thanks to the numerous sea sports : sailing and kite-surfing schools 10 minutes from the campsite.

Our campsite has two direct accesses to the sea. The first exit will directly take you to the seawall and the dune located right behind the campsite. By bike or by foot, you will have the chance to make the most of an enjoyable escapade to the center of St Clément where you’ll find a grocery store, a pub, the restaurant Le Chat Botté as well as a newspaper office on the lovely village square.

The second one will lead you towards the beach of the “Wild Coast” passing by the famous lifeboat monument built in 1869. By going through this door, you will land on a natural-like beach.

On the foreshore (the part of the seashore that is left exposed at low tide), you will be able to do shell collecting. By yourself or with your family, this activity often gathers all generations: great children, parents, grand parents… In this fragile space live a great number of species that make our taste buds crazy: oysters, mussels, clams, crabs. Yet be careful to respect the regulations in order to preserve this space where the biodiversity is extremely vulnerable.

When the sun shines, you will be able to dive into the water or build sand castles without burdening yourselves with beach bags and so on; swimming suit, sunglasses on and towel in your hands, there you are! This beach, quiet and discreet is ideal for a peaceful time.

By using this exit, you will also be able to go to the Phare des Baleines / The Lighthouse of Whales which is located less than 200m away from us! Various restaurants and souvenir shops as well as local products are waiting for you. On the way, you will enjoy sculptures made out of stones coming out of the blue as well as the seal who comes say “hi” to the luckiest whenever he feels like it.
